RSS

Is it possible to add my accounts that I use for email to my google reader? I subscribed to a lot of websites, but I am still a little confused about it all.

Technology-future career

Two months ago Someone bought me the i-pod timex Ironman watch and I had a nano at the time. So for my physical education class I used my regular boom box with my nano connected into the inlet. After misplacing my controller for the boom box I soon realized I did not need it because now I can change the volume or songs and stop and play from my wrist watch. Its pretty convenient and helps with less down time in class.

I think twitter can help with my departments communication if my colleagues would touch a computer every once an awhile. Communicating future weather forcasts, field conditions, lessons that worked or did not and changes with schedules.

Web 2.0

I usually use map quest for directions, but I think I am going to start using google maps more often. It was pretty cool to see where the traffic was and look at pictures in certain areas.

I also enjoyed learning about peertrainer.com
This could be something for me, helping me accomplish some of my goals coming up.
You basically sign up to be in a group and then your group motivates you to achieve your goals. You keep a daily log of your workouts and intake of food/calories. I signed up for the triathlon group if anyone is interested. One bad thing I noticed was in all the groups they are small, like max 4 people.

Google Docs

I definitely think my colleagues and I could utilize Google Docs. One way to use it would be for our department head to send out meeting agendas, new letters, bad air days and up coming events. Then everyone can comment about it and everyone can see it. I know it would help me stay more organized and use less time searching for websites or documents. Sharing lesson plans and commenting about what worked well and not so well would help me as a teacher as well.

Microblogging

Microblogging sounds pretty cool. I am not sure how it works with text messaging, but I will soon find out. In my Physical Education department one thing we lack is good communication and microblogging could really help with that. It is to bad right now we have some people we work with that want to totally stay away from technology as much as possible.

EMERGING TECHNOLOGY IN LIBRARIES

I would have never thought that the libraries of today could use technology as much as they talked about in this article. Creating podcasts, blogs and instant messaging so that students can read reviews about books or take tours of the library is amazing. This gives students access to reflect about books and create an online book discussion.

Social Networking

I found these facts pretty amazing. One out of every six people in the world use the internet. In America 55 percent of teens have created a personal profile on line. I did not know the internet was first used as a giant encyclopedia, but I can believe that now the main purpose people use the internet is for social networking.

Examining Social Software in Teacher

This article reminded me about the dangers of using social networking sites. On the other hand there are many positive things that come from using these sites. From personal experience I have found that myspace is no where near as protected as facebook in regards to people seeing your profiles and attempting to be your friend. One of the dangers that I was reminded about is that my students parents could look me up and see my picture and who my friends are. Therefore they might place judgements about myself that could affect my students interactions with me. I feel there are more postive things that come with using social networking than negative.

Training brick workout

Goals: Big Kahuna Half Ironman Sept. 7th 2008
Ironman Arizona Nov. 23rd

Ironman training started today. I did a 60 mile bike ride from my house up to Prather and back. Then, transitioned to a 3 mile run. I felt like I left a little to late because it started to get a little warm on the bike and was hot on the short run. I felt pretty strong though overall.

Hopefully this coming week I can get some commuting miles in to work during the week before another long workout next weekend.
